Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean that PNS is a cooperative preschool?Parents’ Nursery School is a parent cooperative, which means families and teachers work together to support the school. Each family takes on a small, clearly defined role that helps keep the school running smoothly. This family involvement is designed to be very manageable, flexible, and largely voluntary, and it works well alongside full-time jobs and busy family schedules. The cooperative model creates a strong sense of connection between families, teachers, and children, without placing pressure on any one family.
What is the age range of students? We offer a single mixed-age classroom with children ranging from 2 years and 9 months to five years old. Our classroom has two teachers and up to twenty students.
What are the school hours? The school day runs from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. An optional Extended Day program is available from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm for a smaller group of children. The Extended Day program can be booked in advance, and limited same-day spots are often available, allowing families to sign up spontaneously in the morning if space permits.
Do children go outside every day?Yes. Children enjoy daily outdoor play in our fenced yard whenever weather permits. Outdoor time is an important and valued part of the PNS experience year-round.
How do admissions work?Admissions are rolling, space permitting, with priority given to returning families. We invite families to visit for a tour before applying. Contact info@parentsnurseryschool.net for more information.
What is parent helping? Parent helping is one optional part of family involvement. It takes place on Thursdays, and parents are welcome to sign up once a month if they wish, though many parents choose to help every six to eight weeks. Some families are unable to participate at all, which is completely okay, while others enjoy helping more regularly. Participation is flexible, optional, and always based on what works best for each family.
Does PNS offer financial aid?Yes, one in four students at Parents’ Nursery School receive some sort of financial aid. The average financial aid package covers one third of the morning tuition. This aid is need-based and all applications are handled confidentially. More information can be shared upon inquiry.
Does PNS offer a summer program? Yes. An optional summer program (June–July) is available to children who attended PNS during the preceding academic year, with an optional extended day program. Sign up for the summer program is on a week-by-week basis.
What should my child bring to school? Children bring a water bottle, lunch, and weather-appropriate clothing each day. Snack for the classroom is provided on a rotating schedule by two families a week.
